Should I use fabric softener or vinegar?

Skip fabric softener. It leaves a waxy film that can block breathability, reduce moisture-wicking, and weaken stretch. If you want that “new again” feel, a simple vinegar rinse works better and leaves no residue.

How to do an odor/softness reset (occasionally)

  • Add ½ cup (120 ml) white vinegar to the rinse compartment—don’t mix with detergent.

  • Wash cold, gentle, inside out.

  • Line dry in shade.
Vinegar helps dissolve detergent buildup and hard-water minerals, restoring softness and performance without perfume masks.

If you prefer a scented finish, use a mild, enzyme-based detergent (measured correctly) and let the air do the rest. Fragrance boosters and softener pods may smell nice, but they’re rough on performance fabrics and skin.
